City of Science Tour: 24/26/28 July 2016, 4pm and 6pm
This tour looks at more than 200 years of incredible scientific achievement in Manchester.
It covers pioneering science and innovative social thought from the Literary and Philosophical Society and John Dalton through James Prescott Joule and Ernest Rutherford to the proto-computer ‘Baby’ and graphene. It visits fascinating and exciting locations, telling the story of the city and the curious personalities of so many of our ‘innovators’ in an entertaining and authoritative manner. The tour will conclude in an historic pub.
The tour will make reference to ‘A New Manchester Alphabet’, an illustrated poetry book by students at Manchester Metropolitan University. The book was inspired by ‘A Manchester Alphabet’ written by architect Roger Oldham in 1906 and re-printed in the new book.
Meet outside Manchester Central entrance, M2 3GX on the right hand side of the entrance canopy.
Tours take place on Sunday 24 July at 4pm, Tuesday 26 July and Thursday 28 July at 6pm.
Tickets can be booked in advance and cost £10.00 each or £15.00 including a copy of ‘A New Manchester Alphabet’.

The tour is run in association with Manchester Metropolitan University during European City of Science Festival.
