The Statues of Manchester: the deeper story
Saturday 20 June, 12 noon , £15
ON-STREET TOURS RETURN
Since Edward Colston's statue was tipped into a Bristol dock there has been intense controversy over statues and what they represent.
This story takes a look at the people who stand on plinths in central Manchester and asks what they did to justify their elevation and why did people, even, want them there.
Essentially, who are these anonymous men and, occasionally women, and what should or shouldn't we do with them? The tour offers some solutions and follows on from a series of articles I did on Manchester Confidential last week.
I promise the tours will be revealing, fascinating, intellectually stimulating and entertaining.
There are two tours on Saturday. These will follow guidance from Marketing Manchester and the Department of Culture, Media & Sport. There is a five guest limit on each tour and distancing rules must be observed. Please book tickets below.
The booking confirmation from Paypal acts as your ticket, so please print and bring along or have it ready on your smart phone or other device.
Meet outside Manchester Cathedral, Victoria Street, M3 1SX, ten minutes before the tours.
