This is a fascinating area, scruffy yet magnificent. It's a real city centre hinterland, with a profoundly rich history that brings in a lost river, a Roman road, the sparse remnants of one of the greatest of Victorian buildings, a mighty and grim prison, a disappeared pleasure gardens, a lost Assembly Rooms, the creation of a Jewish quarter with its own incredible story and the recent change to an area of mainly Asian businesses. We finish at the wonderfully reworked Jewish Museum. Guests can, at the end of the tour, have a look around the museum for themselves. There is a £12 charge for adults to enter the museum.
