The Secrets of Chorlton: The Surprising Manchester Series
11am Sunday 16 February 2025, 11am Sunday 15 June 2025
From a hamlet on a road to nowhere to a desirable suburb the story of Chorlton-cum-Hardy is a fascinating tale of people, places and events. This tour will explore the characters that inhabited the suburb, the good, the bad and the ugly, explain the physical development of the area (and how the arrival of the railway changed everything), its musical heritage and its distinctive character. All this will be laced with the odd ghost story, some gags, and even a story of complaints about black puddings. We'll be digging in a graveyard as well, so to speak. This tour starts at the eastern end of Chorlton with the historic house of Hough End Hall.
