35 King Street: The last Georgian Townhouse on King Street EXCLUSIVE ACCESS, one month only
This tour is only available for a month and includes a tour around the gorgeous 1736 house built for Dr Peter Waring.
The visit will include a trip to the roof terrace for a superb and unusual view of the city from including St Ann’s Church and the lovely details on the surrounding buildings. There will also be a visit down into the basement and a show of gripping images related to the tour all in the velvety dark of the underground space. The vestigial remains of the interior will be revealed.
We start the tour with a visit to St Ann’s Church from 1712. Then we circle the area looking at real points of interest and buildings pertinent to the crazy story of Georgian Manchester. The climax of the tour is a visit to Dr Waring's house, last remaining Georgian town house on King Street.
Expect stories of masked balls, fashion rivalries, lustful wig-makers, the rebels of ’45 and their ghastly demise, a Manchester ‘mummy’, religious conflicts, self-proclaimed messiahs, complicated politics, the anti-slavery Mancunians, over-eating and too much booze, beautiful ghosts and famous drug-taking authors.
Tours cost £15 each and last an hour and a half. Tour begins at various times so check your booking time carefully. Meet in St Ann’s Square, at the War Memorial, city centre, M2 7HD.
