Two buildings, two incredible collections. Join a fascinating walking tour that explains the architecture and the significance of two incredible buildings at Spinningfields - the John Rylands Library by Deansgate Road and the People's History Museum at Leftbank.
One building was built for beauty and atmosphere and the other for industry and power. The powerful personalities behind the buildings will also be revealed.

Before it was transformed into the vibrant business and leisure district it is today, the area now known as Spinningfields was once known as the 13th District which was associated with murder, mayhem and brothels, as well as contained the notorious Green Man pub with its crazy and unruly entertainment. There was also a very curious link to the growth of a world ideology as well.

12.30pm Spinningfields tour: Bright lights, big plans, and a world-famous University is born
From treading the boards at the Opera House and the houses with pleasure gardens at Hardman Square to the 1945 'classic' skyscraper that was refused planning permission and the strangest bollards in Britain, the south side of Spinningfields that leads into St John's Gardens is full of amazing stories.
Join Blue Badge guide, Jonathan Schofield for this fascinating walking tour at Spinningfields that includes a ghost story about the Ice Maiden as well as details how Manchester merchant John Owens instigated the University of Manchester.
