This tour takes a look at a fascinating part of the city during Manchester’s Flower Festival. We examine the life and work of people with streets named after them at First Street namely Tony Wilson, James Grigor, Annie Horniman, Jack Rosenthal and Isabella Banks.
The reason behind the statue of Friedrich Engels will be revealed and the recent architecture explained.
The tour will also take in the story of the former mills around Cambridge Street and Hulme Street, the creation and destruction of Little Ireland, the role of the River Medlock and the musical legacies of The Ritz and The Hacienda.
