River Medlock is shy in Castlefield, hiding under the Bridgewater Canal in a tunnel. This tour starts at the 1892 viaduct and follows the Medlock as far as Oxford Street through a spectacular urban landscape of new towers, squares and river walks. The route passes under the tallest skyscrapers in the UK outside the capital, then proceeds via HOME arts centre, the International Anthony Burgess Foundation and several mighty textile mills before ending at that terracotta phantasmagoria, the former Refuge Assurance building. Expect great architecture and rich stories.
